Four villages: Sorythia, Durana, Rain, and Snow. Joining wants 0 sin and Neutral, then the Sensei. I followed that from the Kongbakpao village guide and the Trello faction cards.
Switching is slower. Hit 25 sin so you become Rogue, find Gamastuck in Rosemary Pit, clear the sin, then wait three age-ups before the new Sensei will take you. If your clan chief changes faction, the whole clan is kicked and must follow. That rule is on the guilds card.

Which village is best?
The village guide says the differences are minute and you should pick where your friends are. I am not ranking them.
